Alcaraz Overtakes Djokovic as Bookies’ Favourite for 2025 French Open Title

Carlos Alcaraz has moved ahead of Novak Djokovic in the betting markets to become the outright favourite for the 2025 French Open, following a string of dominant clay-court performances in the build-up to Roland-Garros.

The 21-year-old Spaniard is now trading as low as 2/1 with major bookmakers including Bet365 and Paddy Power. Djokovic has drifted slightly to 5/2, amid ongoing concerns over his fitness and form. The shift reflects both Alcaraz’s rise and the uncertainty surrounding the defending champion.

Alcaraz recently claimed titles in Madrid and Rome, defeating top-ranked opponents with an aggressive baseline game and improved stamina. His victory over Jannik Sinner in the Rome final solidified his standing as the man to beat in Paris.

“He’s shown he can outlast and outthink the best,” said a Betfair odds compiler. “The way he’s playing, he looks every bit like the next king of clay.” Alcaraz reached the semi-finals at Roland-Garros in 2024 before losing to Djokovic.

Rafael Nadal, despite confirming his return, is a 14/1 outsider. Bookmakers are cautious given his lack of match fitness and limited action over the past year. Punters remain sentimental, however, and small-stake bets on Nadal have surged since his announcement.

Jannik Sinner and Stefanos Tsitsipas round out the top five in the market, both priced around 7/1 to 10/1 depending on the firm. Both players have shown promise this clay season, but neither has yet won a Grand Slam title.

The men’s field is more open than in previous years, but the market suggests a new generation is finally overtaking the old guard. If Alcaraz delivers in Paris, he could usher in a new era of dominance on clay.
