Speculation over Alexander Isak’s future has intensified after the Newcastle United striker was left out of the club’s pre-season tour to Asia.
While Newcastle have cited a minor thigh injury, the timing has raised eyebrows, especially with Liverpool now 4/6 favourites (60%) to sign the Swedish forward before the end of the transfer window.
Despite recently adding Hugo Ekitike to their ranks, Liverpool remain interested in Isak, and sources suggest a move could still happen but it depends on Newcastle’s willingness to sell, and whether Luis Díaz departs Anfield.
Direct contact between Liverpool and Isak’s camp was reportedly made 10 days ago, and the Reds are believed to be monitoring the situation closely.
“Liverpool’s interest in Isak hasn’t gone away,” said Dave James, odds analyst at Whataretheodds.co.uk. “They’ve made initial contact, and if Newcastle open the door and Liverpool move Díaz on, things could move quickly. Isak has all the tools to thrive under the new system at Anfield.”
Newcastle are still 2/1 (33.3%) to keep hold of their top scorer, though financial fair play constraints and ongoing recruitment needs may force their hand if a significant offer arrives.
A move to Saudi Arabia sits at 9/2 (18.2%), while Chelsea (16/1), PSG (25/1), and Arsenal (25/1) are further back in the running. Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Manchester City all remain long shots at 40/1 or longer.
