Nottingham Forest were searching for a new head coach after parting company with Sean Dyche.

A 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers proved Dyche’s final match in charge, ending a brief spell that began in October following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou.

Forest sat 17th in the Premier League, three points above the relegation zone, and were preparing to appoint their fourth manager of the season.

Several experienced names featured prominently among the early contenders.

Vitor Pereira

The former Wolves boss was expected to feature prominently. Pereira left Molineux in November 2025 with the club bottom of the table, yet his wider CV remained strong.

He has won league titles in Portugal and China and guided Olympiacos to the Greek Super League crown, success that could appeal to Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Kieran McKenna

McKenna had been linked with several top-flight roles since leading Ipswich Town to promotion in 2023/24.

Known for a high-tempo style and tactical flexibility, he was viewed by some as a potential long-term appointment, though leaving Ipswich mid-promotion push looked uncertain.

Marco Silva

Silva’s Fulham contract was due to expire at the end of the season, with little sign he would extend at Craven Cottage.

The Portuguese coach had delivered stability, guiding Fulham to three straight mid-table finishes after promotion in 2021/22, and Forest had shown interest before.

Enzo Maresca

Marinakis had shown ambition since acquiring Forest in 2017 and could turn to former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.

Despite his dismissal, Maresca had overseen a fourth-place finish and Conference League success in 2024/25, and might seek a project offering backing and time.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Solskjaer had been out of work since leaving Besiktas earlier in the season.

At Manchester United he favoured a direct, counter-attacking style that could suit Forest’s squad, and his Premier League experience could appeal as the club looked to avoid the drop.

With Forest braced for another change in the dugout, the field reflected a crowded mix of experienced names. More from the next manager markets sits across the site, including the next Chelsea manager odds.
