Next Celtic Manager Odds – Ange set to return to Glasgow club?

Published

Ange Postecoglou has emerged as the frontrunner to return as Celtic manager following Brendan Rodgers’ departure on Monday evening.

Rodgers’ second spell at the club came to an abrupt end after a turbulent few months, with major shareholder Dermot Desmond accusing him of “divisive, misleading, and self-serving” behaviour. Sunday’s 3-1 defeat away to Hearts proved to be the final straw, leaving the Scottish Premiership champions eight points adrift of the early league leaders.

Former boss Martin O’Neill has stepped in to take temporary charge and will be assisted by ex-Celtic player Shaun Maloney while the club searches for a permanent successor.

Bookmakers Coral have installed Postecoglou as the firm 4/5 favourite to return to Glasgow, while former Celtic striker Robbie Keane is second in the betting at 3/1. Ex-Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer follows at 6/1, with interim coach Maloney priced at 8/1.

Coral’s John Hill said: “Ange Postecoglou has been heavily backed in our betting to make a return to Celtic Park. Rodgers departed for a second time and was replaced by interim manager Martin O’Neill. At any other club, I’d have thought Postecoglou might want a break after a turbulent few months, but this opportunity could appeal to him after the success he had last time.”

Postecoglou is currently without a club after being dismissed by Nottingham Forest earlier this month, just 39 days into his tenure. A return to Celtic would likely be welcomed by fans, given the Australian’s hugely successful two-year spell between 2021 and 2023, during which he guided the club to back-to-back Premiership titles and multiple domestic trophies.

O’Neill, who has taken charge on an interim basis, is also among the contenders to stay on permanently, though he is yet to comment on his long-term intentions.

Elsewhere in the betting, Solskjaer and Keane remain prominent, while Michael Carrick and former Celtic coach Damien Duff are both available at longer odds as the club considers its next move.
