Celebrity Traitors airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Here are the bookies’ opinions and Dave James’s verdict on who could win.
Celebrity odds expert Dave James from odds insight site whataretheodds.co.uk comments:
“The Traitors is back on our screens tonight, and with the celebrity twist this is certain to be a much-needed viewing-figure jackpot for the BBC. Odds released from the bookmakers show Alan Carr leading the market at 7/2 (22.2% chance of winning). The Chatty Man certainly has the quick wit and sharp social instincts to do well in the castle.
I have a feeling he’s the kind of player who’ll have everyone laughing while secretly plotting their downfall. He’s charming, sharp and just sneaky enough to be dangerous. The end result will partly depend on how Alan copes with being either a Faithful or a Traitor. If anyone can pull off betrayal with a smile, it’s Alan, and I think he’s probably the standout contestant.”
“Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway could also do well, and she’s the second favourite at the moment, priced at 4/1 (20% chance of winning). She brings a trusting warmth, resilience and prior reality TV experience. Kate can tell when someone is hiding something, which is a massive advantage. The only worry is whether she can keep it together at the Round Table and tell a bare-faced lie.”
“Stephen Fry, a national treasure, is also tipped to do well at 9/2 (18.2% chance of winning). He could turn out to be a master manipulator, but he might struggle with the intensity of the Round Table and the idea of banishing people, as he’s not someone who typically thrives under intense scrutiny.”
“Looking at an outsider, Tom Daley might be one to watch. He’s calm under pressure, hugely disciplined and has a track record of thriving in high-stakes environments thanks to his sporting background. If he keeps a low profile early on and builds up some trust, he could be a real dark horse.”
Other notable names in the field included Cat Burns (8/1), Clare Balding (10/1) and veteran actress Celia Imrie (12/1), all of whom brought unique strengths to the game. Further out were Paloma Faith (16/1) and Jonathan Ross (20/1), each capable of surprising viewers and fellow players once the cloaks were on.
