West Ham United’s Premier League struggles continued with a 2:1 loss at the hands of Crystal Palace last weekend; the Hammers have now lost back-to-back Premier League fixtures, with one win in their last five league matches.
Barring the Premier League however, it’s important to point out that West Ham have fared a lot better in other competitions.
The Hammers won six of six matches in the UEFA Europa Conference League, being the first team in history to do so. They’ll look to rebound from their recent loss as Blackburn Rovers come calling.
On the other hand, Blackburn Rovers had to rely on their defense yet again, as they overcame a Huddersfield test last weekend.
With that win, Rovers now have five wins in their last six matches. It’s fair to point out that Blackburn Rovers have been one of the best teams in the Championship this season; they are second on the table, just two points behind league leaders Burnley.
Unlike tonight’s opponents, Blackburn Rovers had to go through the previous two rounds of this tournament.
Rovers cruised through a comfortable 4:0 victory over Hartlepool, before knocking out Bradford City by a 2:1 scoreline.
However, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men will take on their toughest challenge of the season; as they’ll need to go through a Premier League side in order to advance to the next round.
Blackburn Rovers have been able to prevent their opponents from scoring in three of their last five matches; they conceded just two goals in that five-game stretch.
Similarly, West Ham United have had their fair share of low-scoring games; as five of their last seven matches went south of the 2.5 goal marker.
