It’s worth noting that the USMNT qualified for eight of the last nine editions of this competition; they have also qualified for the 2026 edition as co-hosts. Interestingly, the USMNT’s best performance in this tournament was back in 1930, where they finished third.
We would like to point out that the United States are North American champions; they won the CONCACAF Gold Cup last year, defeating Mexico in the final. However, the USMNT’s recent form doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence.
Gregg Berhalter’s men have no wins in three games heading into this competition; they scored just one goal in that three-game stretch.
However, considering Wales have equally struggled recently, the United States will fancy their chances here.
Wales, on the other hand, had a solid World Cup qualifying campaign. They lost just once in eight qualifying games, finishing second in their group, behind Belgium.
As a result, the Dragons had to go through Austria and Ukraine in the playoff rounds, in order to reach the World Cup. However, it’s fair to point out that Wales have had a poor run of results since then; they are coming off a disappointing Nations League campaign, where they lost five of six matches, with no wins.
In fact, Wales are coming into this competition on the back of three consecutive losses, with no wins in their last five games.
It’s also important to point out that Wales will be playing in the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1958. Interestingly, the last time they made it to the World Cup, Wales advanced to the quarterfinal.
That said, Robert Page will hope to halt his side’s losing streak as they play their first World Cup game in 64 years.
Despite their recent struggles, Wales have been consistent when it comes to scoring goals. Robert Page’s men found the back of the net in 12 of their last 13 matches in all competitions.
Conversely, Wales have not been able to keep the goals out; they have seen their defence breached in 10 of their last 11 games. On that note, at 11/10 odds, we are backing both teams to score.
