Venus Williams v Elina Svitolina live streaming from Wimbledon
Elina Svitolina enjoyed a remarkable clay-court swing, winning eight consecutive matches in French tournaments and making her way back into the top 100.
She claimed the titles in Strasbourg by defeating Varvara Gracheva and Anna Blinkova, and she also reached the quarterfinals at Roland-Garros, overcoming two three-set battles and securing a straight-sets victory against Daria Kasatkina.
However, Svitolina’s return to the grass court was a forgettable one, as she suffered a disappointing defeat in the first round of Birmingham to Linda Fruhvirtova, losing 6-2, 6-0 in just 52 minutes.

Svitolina has had a mixed record on this surface. At Wimbledon, six out of her eight main-draw appearances have resulted in early exits in the first or second round, but her best performance came in 2019 when she reached the semifinals.
Venus Williams resumed her season by participating in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Birmingham.
Although she suffered a first-round loss to 17-year-old Celine Naef in the former tournament, the 43-year-old American bounced back in the latter event.
She defeated Camila Giorgi in a thrilling three-set match, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, and even pushed Jelena Ostapenko to the limit in the subsequent round. These three matches all went the distance.
The victory over Camila Giorgi, which lasted three hours and 17 minutes, marked only Venus Williams’ sixth win since the beginning of 2020.
With an illustrious history at Wimbledon, having reached the final nine times and securing five titles, Williams has demonstrated her prowess on this grand stage.
Her most recent appearances in 2019 and 2021 ended in early exits in the first and second rounds, respectively.
In their head-to-head encounters, Elina Svitolina currently holds a 3-1 advantage over Venus Williams.
Williams emerged victorious in their 2015 meeting in Rome, but Svitolina won their more recent matches at Toronto in 2017, as well as at Roland-Garros and the US Open in 2019.
As both players return to Wimbledon after missing last year’s edition, it is expected that Williams, as a returning mother, may have the edge in terms of fitness compared to Svitolina.
