Smith and Humphries are the two favourites after Humphries defeated Michael van Gerwen 16-10 yesterday and Smith got the better of Joe Cullen in a close 16-15 victory.
You can get odds of 6/4 and 2/1 for the pair to either win the 2022 title with Smith looking the slight favourite.
There was another shock on the cards as veteran Raymond van Barneveld overcame the odds to defeat Gerwyn Price 16-13 in an exciting affair at the Aldersley Leisure Centre in a bout which has seen much controversy over the years.
With ‘Barney’ believing he can cause an upset once again and win his second title in the competition with the first coming in 2012.
He said: “I’m probably in the top five players of all-time along with Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen, Eric Bristow and John Lowe, and everyone knows I can do this.
“I love to play darts, I love to play in front of this amazing crowd, and yes, I believe I can win this.”
He will take on Smith with van Barneveld hosting appealing odds of 4/1 over the world number four – a price many would feel compelled to take a look at.
