Tranmere Rovers welcome Newcastle United to Prenton Park later this evening; as both sides will look to advance to the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Tranmere Rovers and Newcastle United have previously never met, so this should make for an interesting fixture.
Tranmere Rovers have not exactly enjoyed their season so far; the Super White Army have suffered three losses in five league games, with a win and a draw.
Because of their slow start to the season, Tranmere Rovers are now 17th on the League Two table.
We would like to mention that Tranmere Rovers squared off against League One side Accrington Stanley in the previous round; in a match where they were two goals down at half-time, but managed to force a penalty shootout thanks to a 93rd minute own goal.
The Super White Army eventually came out on top in a dramatic shootout, which ended by a 12:11 scoreline.
By comparison though, Newcastle United will be a relatively tougher opponent than Accrington Stanley; as the Magpies ply their trade in the English top flight.
Newcastle United are coming off a three-all draw against Manchester City; despite having a two-goal lead at the 60 minute mark, the Magpies were unable to hold on for the win.
With that draw, Newcastle extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to five matches; they’ve won three and drawn two of those games.
With this in mind, Newcastle United are sixth on the Premier League table after three matchdays; the Magpies will look to stretch their unbeaten run to six games as they make the trip to Prenton Park.
Tranmere Rovers have a few injury concerns ahead of this match, as Tom Davies and Kieron Morris are in the recovery room; on the other hand, Newcastle United have a long list of absentees heading into this game, as Callum Wilson, Jonjo Shelvey, Ryan Fraser amongst others will be unavailable for selection.
Newcastle United are huge favourites here, and rightly so; they are a Premier League side, three tiers above their opponents tonight.
This looks like a one-sided contest on paper, and considering Tranmere’s recent struggles, the Magpies shouldn’t have too much trouble winning this one.
With that in mind, we also believe that the goals will flow in this match; that’s why we’re backing Newcastle to win, and over 2.5 total goals.
This combo pays at 4/5 odds.
