Stokes into 2/1 for Knighthood by end of year as England level Ashes

Following his heroics on Saturday, England test hero Ben Stokes has been pushed into 2/1 to be knighted this year as the nation has yet to come down following a thrilling end to the third test at Headingly where Joe Root’s side kept their Ashes hopes alive with a one wicket victory.

Putting on 76 for the final wicket, Stokes hit an unbelievable 135 not out from only 219 balls, smashing 11 fours and a remarkable nine sixes along the way, against one of the best bowling attacks in the world.

For many, it was one of the best innings ever seen in Test cricket, with Stokes taking many of the plaudits and many calling for the Englishman to be given a knighthood for his feat.

It seems that may now be gathering pace, with Stokes now into 2/1 to be given a Knighthood by the end of the year.

Whataretheodds.co.uk spokesman Callum Dunn commented:

“It really was one of those ‘I was there’ moments in British sport. What a remarkable innings – the Ashes is well and truly back on and many sports fans are asking for Stokes to be given the highest accolade. Its no surprise that people are calling for a Knighthood, if England can go on and win the Ashes then it could well happen’

England were in a dismal spot early on having been bowled out for a measly 67 in their first innings and looking down the barrel of defeat having been set a run target of 362 by Australia.

Stokes however, has brought the Ashes back to life for England and their ‘Barmy Army’ will be in a better frame of mind as they head to Old Trafford for the fourth test which kicks off on September 4th.

England meanwhile, have been backed in from a mammoth 50/1 into a more realistic 11/8 to retain the Ashes this summer.
