Stoke City came from behind to rescue a point against Middlesbrough last time out, thanks to a stoppage time equaliser by D’Margio Wright-Phillips, in a match where they only had 40 percent of the possession.
The Potters are now without a win in their last three matches, with a draw and two losses. It’s fair to point out that Stoke City suffered six losses in their last eight games in all competitions; they won just one of those games, with one draw.
Due to their poor run of results, Stoke City find themselves in 18th place, with four points from a possible 12; they’ll fancy their chances of taking all three points against fellow strugglers Sunderland.
On the other hand, Sunderland suffered all sorts of misfortunes in their 2:1 loss at Sheffield United; they had to play short-handed for about an hour, after David Neil was sent off for fouling the last man.
That loss extended Sunderland’s winless run to three games; they are 11th on the table, with five points accumulated so far.
The Black Cats will hope to halt their unwanted streak as they go up against Stoke City.
As mentioned above, David Neil will not be available for selection due to a red card; the Black Cats have no other injury concerns besides Daniel Ballard, who suffered an ankle injury last weekend.
Stoke City, on the other hand, have a couple of players in the recovery room; this list includes Harry Souttar, Nick Powell and Harry Clarke.
All things considered, we believe that both teams will get on the score sheet; this is mostly because of the way these teams concede goals, rather than how they score.
Sunderland did not keep a single clean sheet in their last eight matches; they conceded 14 times in that stretch, with at least two goals allowed in each of their last four games.
Likewise, Stoke City have seen their defence breached 13 times in their last eight matches.
At 4/5 odds, we think there’s a good chance that both teams find the net.
