The news coming into this one is that Shrewsbury manager Steve Cotterill is still in intensive care with the effects of Covid 19, meaning that Aaron Wilbraham and David Longwell will take charge of this third round tie.
The match was scheduled to be played mid January but was postponed following a Covid scare at the League One club – Shrewsbury haven’t actually played a competitive match since December 29th.
Both sets of supporters and players will want to wish the away manager a very speedy recovery.
Saints manager Ralph Hasenhüttl will be hopeful his side can continue their decent Premier League form, with the side currently sitting pretty in eight place in the table, although there are sure to be plenty of changes for this one.
Striker Danny Ings and defender Jannik Vestergaard will miss this one through injury, as Hasenhüttl could bring in a number of new faces from the under 23’s. Mohammed Salisu should come into the Southampton lineup for his first appearance.
Southampton are predictably the favourites for the tie and can be backed at a price of 1/3, while there could be better value in backing a Shrewsbury away win, which could appeal to punters at a hefty 10/1.
