Sheffield United vs. Liverpool Match Preview – Reds looking to extend winning league run
Liverpool will look to maintain their 100% winning start to the new Premier League campaign with a trip to Sheffield United on Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have opened up a five point lead after just six games, resulting in talk of the league title already being Liverpool’s to lose. But with 32 games remaining and Manchester City in hot pursuit the title race is far from over, in fact it’s yet to get going.
Last time out the Reds claimed all three points at Chelsea with a 2-1 victory. Their toughest test of the season so far navigated safely, although they were holding on at the end. But that’s the hallmark of champions, i guess. Grinding out results without hitting top gear. Saturday’s trip to Bramall Lane will pose a different challenge entirely.
Sheffield United have enjoyed a bright start to their return to the Premier League. They’ve taken eight points from their opening six league games, they’re above Chelsea in the table and level on points with Manchester United and Spurs. Victory over Everton last time out was their first away win of the season and second clean sheet.
Chris Wilder’s side will be organised, rigid and tough to break down. They’ll also pose a huge threat on the counter attack.
Mo Salah’s pace could be key to unlocking the Blades defence and he’s 10/30 to open the scoring.
All seven of United’s league goals so far this season have been scored by someone different. John Lundstram has been a huge threat from midfield with a goal and an assist and he’s 9/1 to score anytime.
The two sides last met at Bramall Lane back in 2007 with the game ending 1-1 and it’s 10/1 for a repeat of the same scoreline.
Chris Wilder’s side are as big as 9/1 to cause an upset whilst Liverpool are 4/11 to bag their seventh league win on the bounce this season. The draw is available at 4/1.
