It’s been a season of struggle for Chris Wilder’s men so far.
The Blades exceeded all expectations last time out, but the current league campaign has them sitting rock bottom of the standings. They have just three league wins to their name, and are now 12 points from safety.
It, therefore, looks unlikely that Sheffield will make a dramatic recovery, meaning the FA Cup will provide the squad and manager with some respite from their struggles. But even the famous cup competition has been a struggle this season.
The Premier League outfit edged past Bristol Rovers 3-2 in round-three, with Oliver Burke and Jayden Bogle scoring after an own goal from the hosts. Wilder’s side then narrowly made it past Plymouth Argyle in round four. Veterans Chris Basham and Billy Sharp were the heroes this time around.
Dean Holden’s men won their third-round tie against Portsmouth 2-1 thanks to goals from Famara Diedhiou and Chris Martin.
Diedhiou was also on target in the fourth-round victory over Millwall. Nakhi Wells and Antoine Semenyo were also on the scoresheet in the 3-0 win.
Bristol sit tenth in the Championship standings. But they are currently on a worrying run of form, having lost their last three matches. They go into the game on the back of a 2-0 league loss at home to Cardiff on Saturday.
The Blades also lost at the weekend, with Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea winning 2-1 at Bramall Lane on Sunday.
The Premier League side remain favourites at 7/10 to come out on top on Wednesday evening. A draw has been given odds of 11/4.
The visitors can be backed at 5/1 to pull off a shock and win the game.
It’s difficult to know if Wilder will opt to play his full side given the current situation in the league.
The manager does, however, have a range of attackers at his disposal to hopefully see off the threat from Bristol.
Oli McBurnie can be backed at 22/5 to net the game’s opening goal, with young striker Rhian Brewster available at 9/2.
