Premier League Top Scorer: ‘Vardy that has made the biggest impact so far’

While the Premier League title is undoubtedly the main prize in England every season, there is of course one award which all forwards will have their eyes on.

The Golden Boot has been coveted by the league’s top players year in year out as they look to outscore their deadly attacking rivals.

Mohamed Salah, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sadio Mane all shared the award last season, with the three African stars managing 22 league goals each.

The Liverpool duo were on fire in the last campaign, with their crucial goals testimony to Jurgen Klopp’s attacking football.

The Reds were, however, outdone by rivals Manchester City, who outscored them on their way to another league title. Sergio Aguero was their main man up front, finishing second in the scoring charts with 21.

Leicester’s Jamie Vardy was his nearest competitor with 18, closely followed by the 17 of England attacking duo Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling.

And 2019/20 has been a very similar campaign in terms of the main men up front.

There is once again a strong English contingent among the league’s top forwards. And there are a few new competitors throwing their hat into the ring in a bid to take home this season’s Golden Boot trophy.

Last season’s winners have unsurprisingly started this campaign from where they left off in May.

Aubameyang has eight league goals, and several bookmakers have given him odds of 6/1 to once again come out on top.

Salah has found the net six times, and the Egyptian is now 13/2 to clinch the trophy again come the end of the season.

His fellow Liverpool winger Mane has scored seven league goals in another blistering start to the campaign for the club. The Senegal star is currently 10/1 to secure the top scorer prize for the second successive season.

Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham and Norwich finisher Teemu Pukki have also impressed in front of goal.

The England international has ten for the campaign, with the Finland striker on six. The former is at 6/1 to finish as the league’s top scorer. And the latter has dropped all the way down to 100/1 after his side’s recent decline.

City duo Sterling and Aguero have also enjoyed a fantastic start to the 2019/20 campaign. Sterling sits on seven, with Aguero on nine.

The England winger is now at 12/1 to end as the league’s most clinical striker. His Argentine team-mate is available at 4/1.

England’s Kane and Marcus Rashford are available at 6/1 and 33/1 respectively.

But it has been Leicester’s potent striker Vardy that has made the biggest impact so far.

The 32-year-old seemingly hasn’t stopped finding the back of the net in recent weeks. He currently leads the goalscoring charts with 11 goals from 12 games.

He is currently 4/1 to end the season in the same position.
