Odds SLASHED on Jose Mourinho joining Arsenal following the Gunners’ poor start

Arsenal are reportedly interested in appointing former Manchester United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho with current manager Unai Emery struggling at the helm.

The Gunners are sitting fifth in the table but have only managed 4 wins out of 11 Premier League games and are already six points behind 4th place Chelsea.

Emery has struggled to implement his playing philosophy and his side have failed to play the attractive attacking football that was promised when he signed with the club this season.

The Spaniard’s broken relationship with star player and creative juggernaut Mesut Ozil has also left fans perplexed as the German has not featured for the most part for the Gunners.

Granit Xhaka’s outburst when substituted in their 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace has also added pressure on Emery as he has failed to deal with the situation adequately.

Arsenal have only won one of their last five games in all competitions, which came in a tight 3-2 win over Vitoria in the Europa League where club-record signing Nicolas Pepe had to score in the last minute to seal the three points.

His team selections have been under huge criticism and reports have come out suggesting that he has lost his dressing room due to his inability to communicate properly.

Having spent big in the summer window, it was expected that Arsenal would be in the top four comfortably especially considering that their rivals have been in disarray.

Local rivals Spurs have struggled this season, as have Manchester United and Chelsea were hit with a transfer ban and have resorted in playing some of their youth players.

With that being said, Emery’s odds of being sacked have been set at 4/1 by the bookies, with only Ralph Hassenhuttl and Marco Silva having shorter odds to leave their club.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho’s odds shorten to 5/1 to join Arsenal as it was reported that the unemployed Portuguese manager was dining with the Gunners’ head of football Raul Sanllehi.

However, the illustrious manager is also linked with joining Bayern Munich or Real Madrid with Niko Kovac and Zinedine Zidane struggling with their clubs respectively.

Mourinho did hint at the prospect of joining a club in England recently as he is open to managing a club where it will be possible to win trophies, something which would be capable at Arsenal.

Although, he will not be a popular appointment despite his pedigree of winning silverware. His time at Manchester United was toxic, to say the least, and Mourinho is renowned for playing defensive football, a gripe Arsenal fans already have with Emery.
