The New England Patriots steamrollered the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night, leading the defending Super Bowl champions to a comfortable 33-3 victory.
The 2019 season has just begun and the outcome is still unpredictable.
But while most insiders were at least confident of a Patriot victory on Sunday, there seems to be a lot more hedging for the 2 games being played on 2019’s first Monday Night Football.
New Orleans vs Houston
The first showdown on 9 September, at 7:10 pm Eastern Time, is between the Houston Texans and the New Orleans Saints.
This will be the Saints’ first foray since losing the NFC Championship Game to the Los Angeles Rams, while the Texans will be debuting several new trades including left tackle Laremy Tunsil.
Both sides are looking to make deep runs in the playoffs, and the match should produce some exciting action.
New Orleans has an incredible offence, and the fact that the game is taking place at the New Orleans Mercedes-Benz Superdome should also help them; the Saints hardly ever lose when playing at home.
On the other hand, New Orleans has not performed well in the season-openers and people are expecting Tunsil to do great things for the Texans. Although the team from the Big Easy is currently a 7-point favourite to win, the Houstonians are still in with a chance.
Denver looking for running game
The second game on Monday, at 10:20 pm, pits the Oakland Raiders against the Denver Broncos. Denver is the 2.5-favourite to win, even though the Raiders have the home advantage.
Denver has several issues but is believed to have addressed them in the off-season. In addition, Running backs Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freedman have already proven a formidable duo.
However, Oakland’s offence is very strong. Although Antonio Brown has been released, the raiders spent a first-round pick acquiring Josh Jacobs at running back and they also have wideout Tyrell Williams, running back Darren Waller and promising rookie Hunter Renfrow.
The teams have evenly split their last 4 meetings, so this face-off should definitely deliver some thrills.
