Messi & Ronaldo: Where will the ‘two biggest stars in football’ go next?

With the majority of football suspended across Europe, it’s a worrying time for the near future of the sport.

Players have been asked to offer more to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, while managers have already taken it upon themselves to take voluntary pay cuts.

And the crisis is showing no signs of slowing down.

Top-flight football throughout the world has suffered greatly. The Premier League, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Serie A and La Liga all have a worrying few months ahead.

And UEFA have also had to step in. The governing body have suspended this season’s Champions League and Europa League campaigns. And they have also been forced to postpone Euro 2020 until 2021.

But while the action on the pitch may have stopped, the rumours off the pitch continue to roll on.

Several top stars have been linked with a move this summer, provided the transfer window goes ahead as normal.

They include RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner and Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho. Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and Chelsea’s Willian are also just a few names in a long list of potential summer movers.

But two stars that have somehow seemed to have slipped through the net are Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Incredibly, the two greatest players on the planet have managed to stay out of the transfer limelight in recent months.

But could they be on the move any time soon?

Messi has enjoyed an astonishing career at Barcelona, with Ronaldo also enjoying life at Juventus. But the pair could be seeking a new adventure, with the lockdowns in Spain and Italy providing the duo with plenty of thinking time to decide their future in the game.

The Barca attacker is currently 2/1 to end up at Manchester City next. He’s 3/1 to move to Juve, and 10/3 to switch to any club in his native Argentina.

It’s 6/1 for the forward to join PSG next and 20/1 for any MLS club. Both Manchester United and Liverpool are also available at 20/1 to snap up Messi next.

The 32-year-old is 33/1 to join Chelsea from Barcelona, 50/1 to join Inter and 66/1 to make the switch to Bayern Munich.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, is available at 2/1 to join up with David Beckham at Inter Miami. And it’s currently 7/2 for PSG to be his next permanent club.

The Portugal attacker is 15/2 to make a move to the Bundesliga with German champions Bayern.

Ronaldo is currently 12/1 to either make a dramatic return to Old Trafford, or to enjoy the riches in Asia with any Chinese club.

He’s 16/1 to return to his former club Sporting in Portugal, and 20/1 to rejoin another of his old clubs in Real Madrid.
