Manchester United ‘one of the frontrunners’ to sign teenage sensation Erling Braut Haaland
English giants Manchester United are said to be in the front of the pack to sign teenage striker Erling Braut Haaland who has been grabbing the attention of top clubs this season with his performances.
The 19-year-old has been in scintillating form with his club, RB Salzburg, impressing both in the Austrian Bundesliga and the Champions League with his incredible goal tally.
With the departures of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan in the summer, the Red Devils are keen to sign a young replacement.
However, they are not the only ones after the Norweigian international as top European clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are monitoring the striker.
Born in England, Haaland was not well known at the start of the season despite scoring 9 goals in a single match at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
He carried his superb scoring record into the season and has 16 goals in just 14 games for Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga. The youngster also has 6 assists to add to that tally showcasing his versatility as a striker.
Of course, it is easy to see that the Austrian Bundesliga is not at the level of leagues such as the Premier League or La Liga but Haaland has been able to stand out in Europe’s most elite competition- the Champions League.
Odds of Erling Braut Haaland’s Next Club
2/1- Borussia Dortmund
7/2- RB Leipzig
9/2- Manchester United
16/1- Manchester City
16/1- Barcelona
The son of former Manchester City player Alf-Inge has scored an incredible 8 goals in the 6 group games where Salzburg had to play against the reigning European champions Liverpool, Italian giants Napoli as well as Genk.
The striker, who stands at 1.94m, scored in the first five group games and only Liverpool were able to stop him from scoring in the last game.
His goalscoring streak created history as he is the first player in Champions League history to score six goals in his first three games.
Recent reports suggested that Haaland visited both German giants Dortmund and Leipzig in the last couple of days meaning that a move to the Bundesliga could be the most likely.
With Dortmund’s history of bringing up youth and Leipzig having a strong connection to Salzburg due to the Red Bull brand, it is easy to see why a move to Germany makes sense.
Manchester United are, however, managed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has previous history with the striker.
Solskjaer was managing Molde and worked with Haaland and promoted the youngster into the first team so the possibility of signing a potential superstar still remains for the Red Devils.
