Both sides are enjoying strong seasons so far. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men currently sit second in the league table, five points off rivals and leaders Manchester City. The Hammers, meanwhile, occupy sixth spot.
It’s been a fantastic campaign for David Moyes’s side, who are just a point outside the top four.
But league action takes a break midweek, with the two clubs keen to extend their cup run.
It’s been a dramatic tournament so far for the Red Devils. They edged past Championship club Watford in the third round this time last month, with Scott McTominay netting the only goal of the game.
They then defeated fierce rivals Liverpool in round four. Bruno Fernandes was the hero that day, with his strike earning a 3-2 victory over Jurgen Klopp’s men.
West Ham also had a nervy enough start in this season’s competition against lower-league opposition. A late Craig Dawson goal was enough to see off Stockport in round three. Round four then saw the Hammers win much more comfortably at Doncaster. Pablo Fornals and Andriy Yarmolenko were among the goals in the 4-0 victory at London Stadium.
Somewhat surprisingly, it is the visitors who go into the game in better form. They have three wins, one draw and one loss in their last five matches in all competitions. The hosts have just two wins, with two draws and a shock loss to Sheffield United.
Despite that form, it is the home side who are favourites at 4/6 to win the game. A draw has been given odds of 7/2.
The London outfit can be backed at 22/5 to clinch victory.
It’s difficult to know exactly how strong a side each manager will choose. Both will be keen to continue their fine form in the league, but both will also want to enjoy a lengthy run in the prestigious competition.
Dangermen Fernandes and Edinson Cavani have been given odds of 17/4 and 9/2 respectively to open the scoring, with Michail Antonio available at 15/2.
