Man City stars won’t join Tottenham
Manchester City star Bernard Silva has made it clear that he is not interested in joining Premier League rivals Tottenham.
City are currently involved in negotiations with Tottenham for Harry Kane. The Cityzens seemed to have explored a cash-plus-played deal, including Silva. However, according to Sam Lee of the Athletic, Silva is only interested in moving to Spain.
The Portuguese international has fallen down the pecking order at City following the arrival of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa. He is keen on securing an exit from City this summer. The likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are said to be interested in his services. However, both of them find themselves unable to meet City’s valuation of around £50 for their player.
The report further adds Silva’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is in Manchester this week to sort out his client’s future. Furthermore, Mendes also offered Cristiano Ronaldo to City during the talks. Regardless, City opted against signing the Portugal international because they are solely focused on Kane. Nonetheless, we should hear more about Silva’s future at the end of the week.
Another City player that finds himself in a similar dilemma this summer is centre-back, Aymeric Laporte. Like Silva, Laporte is keen on securing an exit this summer, but not many clubs can afford to sign him this summer. He was also offered in a player-plus-cash deal to Tottenham. However, the deal was turned down by the North London side.
The French centre-back finds himself absent from Pep Guardiola’s best eleven following the emergence of the centre-back partnership between John Stones and Ruben Dias. He managed just 16 appearances in the Premier League last season.
He joined City from Athletic Bilbao in a £57 million deal in January 2018. He was a crucial part of the City’s title win in 2018-19. However, his superb form was curtailed when he suffered a severe knee injury ahead of the 19-20 season. He reclaimed his spot upon his return in the second half of the 19-20 season. But, Guardiola dropped him in favour of John Stones in November 2020, following a poor performance against Tottenham.
Latest rumours in Italy have suggested Juventus as a possible option, but the Italian side are likely to push for a loan deal.
