Liverpool would need to pay big for Sarr

Liverpool have learned that they would need to offer a fee in the region of £80m to have any hopes of signing Ismaila Sarr from Watford.
Liverpool Transfer Sarr
Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has revealed on the Transfer Show that Sarr is quite happy at Watford, and he has not asked the club for a move. He further adds that Watford have no intentions of selling him, and it would take a crazy offer to bring them to the negotiations table. A ‘crazy offer’ would be in the range of £80m.
Earlier, TMW had claimed that Sarr is pushing for a move to Anfield. The report further mentioned that Liverpool is hoping to get the deal done for £40m.
The Reds have been monitoring the Watford forward for quite some time. They were linked with him last summer but chose not to act on their interest. One year later, the attraction hasn’t waned as the Reds continue to explore his signing.
Sarr joined Watford in 2019 from Rennes for a fee believed to be in the region of £30 million. His first season in England was underwhelming as he could not save Watford from relegation to the Championship. In his debut season, he managed only five goals in 28 league appearances.
However, he was a vital player for Watford in the Championship last season as they finished second in the table and secured automatic promotion. The Senegal international was Watford’s top scorer with 13 goals in 40 appearances.
The 23-year-old has continued his form into the Premier League. He was on the score sheet for Watford on the opening day as they registered a 3-2 home win over Aston Villa. It is evident that Watford are reliant on Sarr’s abilities to maintain their Premier League status this season. Furthermore, the player has a contract until 2024 with the club.
Hence, there is no apparent need for Watford to sell their star player. Unless they are presented with an offer that is difficult to turn down. As things stand, it seems like Liverpool will have to pay over the odds if they want to sign Sarr this summer.
