Middlesbrough looked good last month, as they won three of four pre-season friendlies; however, that form did not continue into their new campaign, as Boro have played four matches in all competitions so far, with no win.
The Boro have accumulated two points from a possible nine this season, and are 19th on the league table.

Chris Wilder’s side will take consolation in the fact that they tend to play well against Stoke City; they’ve won five of their last seven encounters with the Potters, having lost just once in their last eight meetings.
However, it’s fair to point out that most of Boro’s wins against Stoke City were at the Riverside Stadium; they’ve actually won just one of their last six trips to the Bet365 Stadium, with two draws and three losses.
It’s worth noting that Stoke City’s struggles did not begin recently; as a matter of fact, they have lost seven of their last eight matches across all competitions.
Stoke City will have to do without Harry Clarke, who injured his shin in their Carabao Cup loss to Morecambe; Nick Powell is still out with an MCL injury, and Harry Souttar has not recovered from his ACL tear from last year.
Boro have no notable injuries or suspensions.
We’ve mentioned that Stoke City suffered six losses in their last seven games, it’s also fair to point out that they did not score in four of those matches.
As a result, the Potters’ recent matches have mostly been on the low-scoring side; seven of their last nine games saw less than three goals scored.
In the same vein, when Stoke City and Boro play against each other, they usually don’t score plenty of goals.
As a matter of fact, one of these sides blanked in four of the last five meetings between these teams; eight of their last 11 clashes went below the 2.5 goal margin.
With both sides struggling for wins, it’s difficult to pick a winner here; however, these teams have not been very efficient in front of goal.
Under 2.5 goal looks the play here and can be backed at 8/13.
