Both teams could certainly do with a win after a troubling start to the Championship campaign. The Rams sit rock bottom of the standings with just one league win all season, with Coventry not far ahead on 20th.
Derby have just seven points to their name from 14 games, with the Sky Blues currently on 13 points having played the same amount of matches.
The Rams do, however, go into the game with some hope. After losing four successive matches, they picked up a point in Saturday’s draw with Wycombe.
Duane Holmes gave the hosts a first-half lead, but Rooney will be frustrated after his side conceded an 81st-minute equaliser to draw 1-1.
And spirits around Coventry will also be higher going into Tuesday’s encounter. They also picked up a point at the weekend, arguably in more impressive fashion against league leaders Norwich.
Mario Vrancic put the hosts ahead from the spot, but the Sky Blues kept fighting right until the very last. And their efforts paid off, with Maxime Biamou netting a dramatic equaliser in the 89th minute.
Coventry now have the opportunity to further climb the table, with Derby fighting for their survival in the division.
A home victory can be backed at 6/5.
An away win has been given odds of 13/5, with a draw currently available at 12/5.
The sides last met two years ago in a club friendly, with the Rams edging the game at Liberty Way 1-0.
But their current form is extremely worrying. They also sit bottom of the Championship form table, with two draws and four losses from their last six.
There have been real problems at both ends of the pitch, with the Rams the lowest scorers in the division with just six goals scored. They also have issues at the back, having already conceded 21 goals.
However, only one side have conceded more, and that is Coventry. Their 24 goals are a real worry for Mark Robins.
Fortunately for the Sky Blues, Matt Godden has been impressing in front of goal. He has four goals and two assists in ten games.
Godden can be backed at 13/2 to open the scoring on Tuesday evening.
