A hugely disappointing 2019/20 season saw Charlton relegated to League One, with the club winning just 12 league games. Their total of 48 points ensured they finished in 22nd spot, one point from safety.
The club failed to find form all season, but really found times tough at the end of the campaign, failing to claim a single point from their final seven matches.
They have since drawn their opening pre-season clash with Birmingham 1-1, and have another chance on Saturday to put their ability to the test, this time against top-flight opposition.
Palace, however, suffered a similarly unsuccessful end to the last campaign. They were winless in their final eight games of the season, losing seven consecutive matches before a final day draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
But since then, the Eagles got their pre-season off to a victorious start by overcoming Oxford United 2-1. Goals from Wilfried Zaha and James McArthur ensured the win.
The club have also strengthened in the player department, adding QPR attacker Eberechi Eze to their ranks. Whether the 22-year-old will play against the Addicks remains to be seen.
A Palace win has been given odds of 1/3, with a Charlton victory available at 6/1. A draw between the pair is currently 15/4.
It’s currently 11/5 for an Eagles win and both teams to score, and 14/1 for a Charlton victory and both teams to score.
A draw and both teams to score can be backed at 6/1, with a goalless draw available at 12/1.
The hosts are 10/11 to keep a clean sheet, and 6/1 to win from behind.
The visitors can be backed at 12/1 to win to nil, and 28/1 to win both halves.
Palace continue their busy pre-season schedule with a Tuesday evening trip to Millwall. They then host Danish side Brondby, before beginning their Premier League campaign at home to Southampton.
Charlton, meanwhile, return to competitive action with a Football League Trophy clash with AFC Wimbledon. That’s followed by an EFL Cup tie with Swindon, before their opening League One fixture at Crewe.
