It’s worth noting that Cambridge United ply their trade in League One, the third tier of English football; this is their second League One campaign in a long time, as they’ve mostly played in League Two and the National League for most of the last decade.
Cambridge United’s form has gradually gotten worse over the course of their season.
The U’s started their campaign in style, with two wins in their first two games; however, they’ve managed just one win in four games played since then, with a draw and two losses.
Mark Bonner’s men impressed in the first round of this tournament; they held their own against Championship side Millwall, knocking them out by a lone goal.
Southampton will be a relatively bigger fish to fry however; it’ll be interesting to see if the U’s can keep up with Ralph Hassenhüttl’s men.
Southampton got their first win of the season in a hard-fought 2:1 victory at Leicester City last weekend; despite conceding the first goal in the second half, the Saints were able to fight back, thanks to a brace by Che Adams.
We would like to point out that Southampton have not won back-to-back games since the first week of March; considering their opponents however, the Saints will fancy their chances here.
As regards injuries, Mark Bonner has no concerns going into this game; he has a completely healthy squad, with the exception of Fejiri Okenabirhie, who hasn’t played at all this season.
Likewise, Southampton will not worry too much, as the bulk of their squad remains intact.
It’s important to note that Southampton have a habit of conceding and scoring a few at the moment.
The Saints have scored in all of their last five games, but have also conceded at least once in that five-game stretch.
Similarly, Cambridge United found the net in 10 of their last 11 games, whilst conceding in all of their last four matches.
Both teams were on the score sheet in Southampton’s last five, and in Cambridge United’s last three games; and at 19/20 odds, we believe this option is worth betting on.
