Burnley v Reading FC – Kompany’s Clarets look to top Championship table

Published

on

Burnley will welcome Reading to Turf Moor later this afternoon, as Vincent Kompany’s Clarets look to increase their lead at the top of the table.

QPR missed a golden opportunity to take over top spot last night but went down 2-0 at Birmingham City.

A win today for the home side could see the lead at the top increase to 5 points if results go Burnley’s way.

The match is not on TV today, either on Sky Sports or BT Sport. You may be able to watch with Bet365, who have a live in play service in operation from 15:00 BST.

These teams will meet for the first time since the 2015/16 Championship season.

Burnley have struggled against today’s opponents in the past; as they won just one of the last nine meetings between these teams so head to head statistics are in Reading’s favour.

The Clarets are currently at the top of the Championship table, and they’ll look to improve their poor record against Reading – they’ve certainly got a decent chance considering their fine form in the Championship.

Burnley subdued a much fancied Norwich City team by a lone goal in their midweek fixture a couple of days ago and Kompany’s side are proving difficult to break down.

Vincent Kompany’s men have been the most improved side in the Championship so far; they’ve lost just one of 17 league matches, no other team has less than four losses this season.

Burnley are currently on a 15 match unbeaten run; they won eight of those games, including four of their last five, so Reading have their work cut out today.

Furthermore, the Clarets have had one of the best defenses in the league and are proving a tough team to break down.

The Clarets have seen their defence breached 15 times so far, only one team has conceded fewer goals this season.

Vincent Kompany’s men are leading the standings ahead of this fixture and look well placed to return to the Premier League.

The home side will look to maintain their spot at the top of the table by winning this match and taking all three points back to Turf Moor.

Their opponents today, Reading halted their losing streak with a 2:0 win against Bristol City last weekend, a game which impressed many.

Prior to that Paul Ince’s side had lost three in a row, with no wins in four matches so the pressure is really starting to build.

Reading FC have eight wins in 16 league games this season, and six of those wins came at home; they’ve struggled away from home, losing five of seven road games.

This will be a tricky fixture for the Royals, considering Burnley have no losses at home this season.

It will be interesting to see if Paul Ince’s men can get any points from this trip as the odds are stacked against them.

To be fair, Reading tend to play well against Burnley, as they lost just one of the last nine meetings between these two.

Paul Ince’s men have struggled to find their best form lately; they lost three of their last four matches, and have lost five of seven matches away from home this season.

In contrast, Burnley have four wins in their last five matches; they are unbeaten in 15 games across all competitions, and have no losses at home this season.

Burnley are definitely the team to beat in the Championship this season.

With that in mind, we’re backing the Clarets to win at 3/5 odds.
