Brentford v Newcastle Form Guide
The hosts are undoubtedly heading into the game as the in-form team. They are now unbeaten in their last 13 matches, last losing to Stoke towards the end of October.
Thomas Frank’s men have two wins from their last three, with one of those coming against Reading on Saturday. Mathias Jensen netted an early opener before Bryan Mbeumo bagged a brace, with Sone Aluko adding a consolation for the visitors.
Newcastle meanwhile have just one win from three. That came against struggling West Brom last weekend. Since then, Steve Bruce’s side have lost 5-2 at Leeds and drawn 1-1 with Fulham.
Saturday’s draw with Scott Parker’s men was a chance for the Magpies to put some clear distance between themselves and the relegation zone, but they couldn’t take advantage after the visitors went down to ten men on the hour mark.
More worryingly for the Premier League side, however, is Brentford’s run in the current competition. The Bees just about made it to the second round, edging past Wycombe on penalties all the way back in September.
But since then, they have managed to knock out three top-flight sides. High-flying Southampton were their first victims, with the Saints losing 2-0 at St Mary’s.
The Championship side then beat West Brom on penalties after a 2-2 draw. And then came their biggest victory yet, with Frank’s outfit easing past Fulham 3-0 in the round of 16.
Brentford v Newcastle Prediction
Tuesday now presents them with another chance to knock out the big guns. And they can be backed at 29/20 to do just that.
The travelling side have been given odds of 21/10 to avoid the upset and win the game.
And a draw is currently available at 5/2.
It will be the highest-ranked club Newcastle have faced in the competition this season. They beat Blackburn 1-0 in round two, before wins against Morecambe and Newport County.
In-form Ivan Toney has been given odds of 19/5 to score the first goal of the game against his former club.
Newcastle’s Callum Wilson can be backed at 5/1 to net the opener.
