Brentford suffered an agonising playoff defeat against Fulham just only a month ago as they make the trip to St Andrews to face Birmingham City in this English Championship game which kicks off Saturday lunchtime (KO 12:30).

Brentford went so close last season, just missing out on a Premier League place after losing late on against Fulham in the playoff final, and with enigmatic boss Thomas Frank still at the helm Bees fans will be hopeful there is no playoff hangover as they enter the new season.

When and where is Birmingham v Brentford being played?

The game is being played at St Andrews Stadium, Birmingham. Kickoff time is at 12:30PM.

Of course the main news at Brentford this season is that striker Ollie Watkins is moving for a club record transfer fee of £25 million to Aston Villa – a massive blow to the Bees chances this season.

The club they will also be moving into a gleaming new stadium The Brentford Community Stadium, which as a capacity of 17,250 – with their first game at their new home against Huddersfield Town on 19th September.

As for Birmingham, it could be another season of rebuilding at St Andrews, but in boss Aitor karanka they do have a man with good pedigree at this level, having already had spells at Middlesbrough & Nottingham Forest.

The loss of star man Jude Bellingham in a £20m move to Borussia Dortmund may have overshadowed their pre season however.
