Barcelona: Catalan outfit ‘backed to replace ageing Suarez’ this summer
When football eventually returns, it could undoubtedly spell the end for certain players at their current clubs.
Many will either be looking for a new challenge, or else keen to get regular playing time. And others may simply not be in the thoughts of the club going forward.
That could be the situation for Barcelona striker Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan has enjoyed a hugely successful spell at Camp Nou. But his time in Spain may be coming to a close.
Could RB Leipzig frontman Timo Werner replace Suarez at Barcelona?
At 33, the forward might just have to jump ship before he is forced out. The Catalan club have long been linked with a successor for the phenomenal finisher.
La Liga, like many other top European leagues, has currently been halted due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Barca had a two point gap over rivals Real Madrid at the top of the table after 27 games. And their position at the summit was helped massively by the 11 goals and seven assists from the Uruguay international.
Despite his evident scoring ability, Suarez has been rumoured with a Camp Nou exit this summer.
Many believed the recruitment of Antoine Griezmann would bring the 33-year-old’s time at the club to an end. But the pair have formed a successful partnership, with Lionel Messi leading the trio.
The Argentinian sits top of the goalscoring charts this season with 19. And French forward Griezmann boasts eight.
The likes of Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati and recent arrival Martin Braithwaite have also been doing their best to find form in front of goal.
But the club will still more than likely be keen to complete a swift search to replace Suarez in the near future.
And their main target is seemingly Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez. The Argentinian has 11 league goals this season. He has formed a formidable partnership with Romelu Lukaku, and at 22, could be the perfect fit.
Martinez is currently 4/6 to move to Barcelona this summer.
Also in contention for a move to Camp Nou is RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner. The German has enjoyed another stellar season in the Bundesliga, and looks set for a move away in the coming months.
Quique Setien may have to battle it out with Jurgen Klopp for Werner, who has been given odds of 6/1 to be a Barcelona player come September.
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is another who could be on the move in the next transfer window. The English frontman can be backed at 12/1 to join the Spanish side.
Other top forwards linked with a high-profile move to Catalonia include Kylian Mbappe, Mohamed Salah and a sensational return for Neymar.
The Brazilian is currently 9/4 to move back, with Salah and Mbappe available at 9/1 and 33/1 respectively.
