2020 Oscars: Money on Joker and Joaquin Phoenix to clinch top awards
The 92nd Academy Awards returns to Los Angeles in February next year to honour the best films of 2019.
Or as they are more commonly known; the 2020 Oscars. The star-studded spectacle will once again make its grand appearance at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood in a couple of months’ time.
There are plenty of awards on offer at one of the most famous awards ceremonies in the world. But the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress categories are undoubtedly top of the list.
Surprisingly, without an Oscar to his name, Joaquin Phoenix is currently the favourite to pick up the top prize in the Best Actor category for his performance in Joker. He is available at 4/9 to clinch the award.
Adam Driver can be backed at 4/1 for his display in Marriage Story, with Leonardo DiCaprio available at 8/1 for his role in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.
Robert De Niro completes the shortlist of favourites. He can be backed at 8/1 for his performance in The Irishman.
Unsurprisingly, the aforementioned films may just steal the spotlight across the entire evening. The Irishman is currently 5/2 to win Best Picture.
Marriage Story has been given odds of 4/1 to win that category, with Joker currently 11/2.
Other top films of the year will also throw their hat in the ring, with Jojo Rabbit and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood currently 7/1 to take home Best Picture. Both 1917 and Parasite are at 10/1 to clinch the prize.
Best Actress will also be a close call, and it’s Rene Zellweger who is favourite to win at 8/11 for her performance in Judy. Both Cynthia Erivo (Harriet) and Scarlett Johansson (Jojo Rabbit) are currently 11/2.
And Saoirse Ronan is 8/1 to clinch the Best Actress award for her role in Pretty Women.
The Best Director category will also be a huge moment during the event. Marielle Heller is currently 20/1 for her role on the true story of A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood. And James Gray is currently 30/1 to win for his fantasy film Ad Astra.
Paddy Power offer free bets and a number of specials. And they again feature several of the big hitters in the film industry.
Joker’s Joaquin Phoenix and Judy’s Rene Zellweger’s to win Best Actor and Best Actress respectively is currently 11/8.
Joker’s Phoenix to win Best Actor and ‘Once Upon A Time in Hollywood’ to win Best Picture meanwhile has been given odds of 13/2.
And The Irishman to win Best Picture with De Niro scooping the prize for Best Actor is currently 20/1.
Whatever the results on the night, however, it will undoubtedly be another evening of splendour for all involved.
