Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk clinched the award last time out with his stunning displays at the back. His side now sit top of the table after 18 games, with 17 wins and one draw.

The Reds, therefore, unsurprisingly boast several players who will undoubtedly be up for this season’s award.

With nine Premier League goals and six assists, winger Sadio Mane is currently 21/10 to pick up the prize. The Senegal international has had a blistering campaign thus far, helping his side to a fantastic position heading into the New Year.

His team-mate Mohamed Salah has also been in fine form. The Egyptian also has nine goals to his name, and is available at 14/1 to win the award. And his fellow Red Van Dijk is available at 20/1 to retain the trophy.

Other Liverpool players eyeing the much-coveted award include Brazilian’s Roberto Firmino and Fabinho. Both can be backed at 20/1. Full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are currently 8/1 and 66/1 respectively.

But several players from both Manchester City and Leicester City will also unquestionably be in the running.

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy currently leads the Premier League goalscoring charts with 17. The 32-year-old has been in stunning form under manager Brendan Rodgers, and is 15/2 to end the season with the PFA Player of the Year award.

His team-mate Youri Tielemans is available at 100/1 after a fantastic season for the Foxes so far.

But as always, numerous Man City’s stars will undoubtedly be nominated come the end of the campaign. Midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has been their standout so far with six goals and ten assists. The Belgian is currently 10/3 to scoop the prestigious award.

His team-mates Raheem Sterling and David Silva are available at 10/1 and 33/1 respectively. Sterling has 11 league goals this season, while fellow forward Sergio Aguero has nine. The Argentine striker is currently 25/1 to win the award.

Tottenham’s Harry Kane is currently 66/1, with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford currently 66/1.

Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish find themselves outsiders at 80/1 and 250/1 respectively.

The campaign is far from over, with plenty of shocks certain to come in the next couple of months. It will be a close run in for the title, but also for the league’s best player, with only one star clinching the PFA trophy at the end of it all.
